Hello,

I have this 3TB HDD from WD that was causing me a lot of troubles in my NAS. It has a few reallocated sectors and some read and write errors, so I had to replace it.
Now is there a way I can save this HDD for backup purposes?
I am actually running the HDD Low Level Format Tool on it right now and it is taking ages but not stuck.
In the end will I get a reliable HDD?
Will the HDD LLFT mark all the damaged areas as unusable and leave the rest repaired and ready to use?

Well,
If you have the tools and the experience you can scan this hdd for bad sectors and then move them to g list .If your g list is full you can move g to p list and then do a smart erase .

Do you really want to trust a failing hard drive with your data?

Certainly not with sensitive data.
So Low Level Format is not covering for checking for bad sectors?
Does that mean that I am wasting my time running LLF for almost 20hours now with at least 5 more to go?
And is chkdsk under Win8 enough to find bad sectors and block them?

Remapping bad sectors does not eliminate the root cause for them forming in the first place. This means that more will likely form as the drive is continued to be used.

25 hours is very slow for a LLF.
