I have been using an external 1 TB HDD from WD Elements for some time.

Currently the had disk is not recognized in windows explorer
When viewed in device management, the disk appears as disk1 with status unknown
When I try to initialize the disk it gives me "Access Denied"
tried using gdisk and diskpart - I get the same message - "Access Denied"

I have tried a few options to understand that sector 0 is reported as a bad sector, every other sector is fine

Need to know a method or tool that can help me rectify the 0 bad sector issue

What is your goal here:
Disk repair / data is not needed or data recovery ?

Data recovery is not something that I am looking at. My goal is to get my hard disk space back so that I initialize it, format it and use it for data storage again.

Currently I am unable to initialize the hard disk ("Access Denied") and hence it unusable.

Surface scan only reports 1 sector bad, which is sector 0.
