How to recover corrupt powerpoint file?

I have a power point file that I cannot open for some reason I get the error "powerpoint cannot open the file represented by...
The selected file does not appear to be a valid Microsoft PowerPoint file. It might be another kind of Microsoft Office file or a file created by using a different product.

I am using powerpoint 2003 I created it myself and it is not encrypted and I've tried everything to open it.

Any suggestions?

can you attach the file here, remember compress it before attaching the file.
with the given information it is hard to know the problem, there are few software who offer file repair for office products.

do a google search or attach it here if you can, so someone can tell you how to proceed.

what size is the file?
it is possible it is corrupted, especially if it is on a USB Flash drive, or external HDD, and you open it and save it while on there.
a lot of these are unrecoverable.

If it's not something private please attach the file so we can attempt to fix it or at least check what is wrong with it ....
