Clicking noise normal means head/surface damage.
It might be caused by firmware issues as well, typical of old maxtor.
If you need the data inside the drive the best option that you have is to send the drive to a data recovery firm. DO NOT open the drive yourself if you have never done any head swap in your life and make sure that you have a laminar flow workbench - hepa 100 if you want to even think about swaping heads on drives.
Also if the problem is caused by firmware you will need to place the drive in safe mode and load it from a loader to attempt repair. Of course you will need very expensive tools to do this as the free ones tend to ... kill drives instead of fixing them !
But in any case it should be head(s) or media problem anyhow.

Search a reputable data recovery firm and do not use the services of a normal computer repair shop.

If you care for your data don't power the drive anymore as well to avoid damage to the platters.

Regards and good luck.

Well, as much as i would like to help I'm NOT a professional in the field and i don't have that much experience with head swaps in particular with your drive.

You have stated that :

i have very important data inside

So there is absolutly no way that i would take your case without knowing for sure that i would be able to handle it properly. If it were something like a simple firmware fix or cloning and do some logic recovery that would be ok, but for head swaping (that you most likely need anyway) and taking intro account the "very important data" i would STRONGLY advice you to send the drive to some reliable and reputable firm, even if you have to ship the drive to Spain or other country.

There are Spanish members out here that i'm sure are willing to help you out and they will have proper facilities and experience to get the data out of your drive.

You don't want to end up with a drive like the one on the Do-It-Yourself going wrong link and very honestly i don't think i would be able to do a proper head swap on a drive with critical data.

Just google for Spanish data recovery professionals that have a good reputation or ask arround here !

Regards and good luck to get the data out of the drive.

Ok, but it will not work :(

Even if the drive were to have SA problems (firmware) the stated firmware code would be on platters and not on PCB.

Even if you match same FW version on the new pcb the drive will still just click.

I guess you don't have any choice except to use professional data recovery firm if you ever want to see your data again.

And whatever you do DO NOT OPEN THE DRIVE ....

On a case like yours i would say $600 and up ?!
But maybe someone here can make it cheaper ?
This assuming it's HEAD/Pre-amp problem.
If it's just firmware it will be cheaper, but don't count on it ...
On the other hand if the data is important you don't want to send it to just a regular computer repair guy and end up with a drive like this :
