I deal in PC and laptop repair biz since close 30 years. Todays laptop drives arent
made in same quality like 5 or 10 years ago, but one must realize that in same
size the capacity increased exponentially - causing that the slightes minor defect
might cause huge problems.
Due to inconsequence of users (even for biz) to back up their "important" data
they face data loss - and as a 2nd unlogical step (in ignoring their lacking ability)
asking for repair-advice for their hdd. ((dont missunderstand that - its not ment
for this actual request)).
A 500GB 2,5" costs about $ 50,- or less - a 1TB a little bit more .... so why mess
around to reuse a drive with issues ?
My daily advice to my customers with your question:
If you use your laptop normally - and if you dont play football with it or treat it
rude, than you can go on with a standard mechanical "old fashioned" hdd.
If you might face dangerous situations (kids, pets, sport, transportation, travel
etc.) - and/or you want to increase speed of hdd - than you should think to use
an SSD.
But - both drives could even fail a very short time after installation / usage.
Therefore - backup - backup - backup
And for the masses of inconsequent users there even exists a freeware like
AllwaySync or similar.....
If a user looses important data - its the users fault - nobody else is to blame.
