HDDSuperClone - A new Linux hard drive cloning/imaging tool

I have decided to allow a couple more things in the free version. There are other free tools to view SMART data, so that is now allowed. And since most that use HDDSuperClone have no idea how to understand the results, I am now allowing the first level of the analyze feature.

The user manual page for HDDSuperClone has been disabled by Google:

“This site has been disabled for violations of our Terms of Service. If you feel this disabling was in error, please fill out our appeal form.”

It is a user manual. The only recent change is I added a section for a new feature. WTF Google!!!

I have clicked on the “appeal form” button, which simply submitted an appeal request with no other information (fill out what, all I had was a button). And I had to find out about this from someone visiting the site. There were no emails or messages from Google at all, and if I am in the editing part of the site, it shows up normally with no indication of an issue. So again I say, WTF Google!!!

FYI the user manual is available as a PDF in the download section, for anyone that didn’t already realize that.

I was planning on creating a new website at some time that was not a Google site. I think this is now a sign that it is time to focus more on that. It was a fun ride on the free Google train, but if this is how you treat me, then FU Google! I do think that Google has become a bit too powerful.

They seem to have gone mad from all the power they've got. I suppose the site hasn't been hacked and something dodgy inserted? I would guess you have it locked down too tight for that to happen though..

I don't think my site got hacked. I mean it is a Google site itself. I am hoping it is just some new Google security algorithm gone wrong. One thing that is starting to bother me is the recent trend. First hddoracle.com was flagged as dangerous for having malicious files. Then hddguru itself had issues with image files being flagged as dangerous. Now something on my site has been flagged, although not as dangerous but for violating terms and conditions. Is it something in the Google algorithms, or are they targeting DR sites? The recent trend makes me wonder...

Bug report :

If the drive you save the progress file onto runs out of space a 0 byte file is written over the progress file, Even worse it looks like the 0 byte progress file is then automatically copied over the progress backup file (or whichever way round you're copying / moving the logs).

Found that one out the hard way !

I will look into that when I have time. My newest priority is building a new website to get away from the heavy hand of Google. In the meantime, don't run out of space!

Perhaps notify the user of approximate amount of space needed for the log file so that they can plan accordingly. That said, it seems rather odd to put a log file an a drive that is near capacity.

Without knowing for sure, I am guessing the log was also on the same drive as the image file, and the image file caused the lack of space. Unless there is a stupid amount of individual bad sectors or small bad areas (or maybe major read time differences), the log shouldn't be more than a few MB. I don't think I have seen anything much over 20MB for any reasonable normal case. 100MB would be very large.

It shouldn't have been anywhere near capacity but r-studio doesn't release the file lock from an image until the application itself is closed not just the image file. Although I'd deleted a 2tb image but it was still taking up space. I'll be more careful next time, but a simple check for 0 byte log file before nuking the backup would be a good precaution in case the file wasn't written correctly anyway.

It is not what I really wanted, but it is functional. If it seems slow, you can thank GoDaddy economy web hosting, functional but cheap for a reason. I already had the domain and web hosting plan for some back end reasons, so this was not a new purchase, just some work to get the public website up on it.

Someone asked about a cyber Monday discount sale. FYI I am thinking about it. If I do a quick sale I bet that person will be the only one that makes a purchase LOL. It might almost be worth the time and effort to set up the sale...

FWI I suggest your tool regularly on Reddit as do some others in r/datarecovery. I wouldn't do the sale if I were you. Consider giving the guy some individual discount. Or not.

Yeah, a sale is actually work that is almost certainly not worth it. It is not as easy as the buyer would think. I think I will retract the idea of a sale. Maybe I will be nice to the one that asked, but damn, that still requires a bit of extra work on my part. I usually only do that for someone that helped me in some way.

I kind of liked the dark theme on the old one. I don't like the colors of the new site. I have some control over the colors and will likely change them in some way, but I can't do a dark theme with the new site. But maybe others don't like the dark theme...

This will be fixed in the next release. I thought it would be simple, but this actually took me a few hours to figure out.
