Best drive clone/copy tool for MAC?

August 9th, 2016, 14:44

All I've been able to find so far is Data Rescue 4. Would appreciate any other recommendations. Thanks in advance! 8)

For healthy drives, all tools are virtually the same.

For drives with bad sectors, best is hardware imager (not software based tools).

Thanks labtech! Wish I had access to a hardware imager. ;)

If the drive is healthy you can use Carbon Copy Cloner or the OSX Disk Utility. If the drive is starting to fail but not too bad yet you I would suggest DDRescue in Linux (DEFT Linux has it built in). If you are not able to image the drive using DDRescue or the read speed is just way too slow you are going to have to resort to some sort of hardware imager. The RapidSpar is a simple and less expensive imager but it runs about $2K.

DEFT Linux distro is pretty cool. Thanks.
