Here is the proceeding of revoSleep

Lock all partitions on the specified hard disk
Dismount all partitions on the specified hard disk
Sleep the specified hard disk
Put all volumes on the specified hard disk in offline state (vista)
Deactivate the driver for the specified hard disk
The locked drives won't wake up
You can unlock/lock different drives

Usage of revoSleep

When you start revoSleep, you will see a try icon in your taskbar
You can double-click the try icon, so you will see the GUI of the program
Here you can specify the drives you want to lock (only 1 partition per hd is shown, no software-raid yet)
With right-click the try icon, you can unlock/lock different drives
All preferences you set will be saved
Every time you start revoSleep the sleep mode of your hard disks is activated automatically
For changing drives without starting revoSleep, edit 'drives.rev' in revoSleep folder (Syntax e.g.: C:;D:;E:)


NOTE: I can not guarantee that the program won't damage your computer. So use it carefully - using revoSleep at your own risk. Setting Hard Disks to standby-mode very often, can damage the devices. So don't switch the sleep-mode every time.

Just out of curiosity ......

Why would someone need or want a tool like this and what is the use of this tool on the data recovery field ?

I think It may useful for Hot swap PCB
And If anyone have experiences In hot swap with this tool ,Just to know

If you don't have anything better just use Victoria to spin down the drive.

Just unplug the SATA/IDE cable

If some "software" can make the drive visible again so any "ransomware" will be able to do the same.

LOL. I was thinking of running it a scheduled batch job to backup/image data then hide the drive.

Kind of a good idea as ransomware authors need to be VERY specific in what they handle. Unlikely they would know what you doid or bother about edge cases.
But you would want some assurance the software you use to do this isnt just as dangerous as the malware.

Problem as it stands today:
0.1% of people I know would even know what a hard disk is.. to them it is the big black box.
0.1% have even heard of, or understand what ransomware is.. even with the exposure wannacry got
0.1% have any sort of idea there are criminal organisations, and a LOT of them, with tehnical skills betterring a lot of software dev companies writing software that uses computers in a totally different way. They cant comprehend the scale, the possibilities or the possible results. even people that have the ransom staring them in the face have no idea what happened, they just think we can un-delete or something.

While microsoft/apple/whoever go nuts taking away all connection people have with their tech at any low level, and work to making things a "better, easier" experience.. (meaning ads, ads and more ads).. they make it more easier to screw people over.

when I got my first win 3.11 PC, it came with books, 1 for DOS explaining every single command and program. Same for windows.

now when you get anything not even the developers of the application know whats going as it is so convaluted. Just look at any thread in microsoft forums where an user with an issue will ask a question and MS employees/gurus will either denounce it as an issue or go through the same rote lines.

anyway I still havent seen the OP say what problem he was trying to solve, or what he thinks a legit use case is for this software. I know I wouldnt be running it on anything.
