Inexpensive write blocker?

Anyone know of one thats reasonable? I have dedicated units - but i want one that just protects a source drive.
even software: identify it with the last 6 digits of the sn, and the sw blocks all accidental write attempts until you disable it for that device ... like a safety.
i know the second idea would never exist, but what about the first?
I tried:
Manufacture: Wiebetech
Model: Forensic UltraDock v5.5
It's caca. seemed like you could write to the disk, even with it on. stupid rapey waste of money. p.o.s. company.
