MHDD erase question

Hi
can someone explain why Im seeing more and more catastrophic errors lately with newer HDDs?
My default settings are - controller to IDE, load MHDD, erase or erase /DISABLEBIOS and then press enter on 0 and then enter on last block and Y, there goes erase.
This results in catastrophic error a lot lately. Workaround is to start erase from block 1, not 0 as default. New drives dont start at 0? Drives are good, no errors otherwise.
