What is the difference between "merge" and "remerge" in WDR?

May 4th, 2020, 1:11

Hello, I am totally new to this and I am trying to recover some WD HDs with WDR 3.2 to use them as offline storage, I do not care if they lose capacity, what interests me is to format them and remove all errors and if possible also the slow sectors and / or doubtful, is there a way to format / write / read that accumulates all the errors in the p-list? I think I understand that if I do a lot of passes I can accumulate errors in the g-list and transfer them to the p-list and repeat again and again until no more errors appear or I have to throw the HD in the trash because it doesn't work. I saw the "merge" and "remerge" commands and would like to know what difference there is between the two. Thanks a lot.

P.D.: Excuse me for my poor english

Normally the program does "merge" command, but if it finds that some defects can be grouped in a bigger defect, the program requires "remerge".
