Post subject:  Bad sectors creation

Hi all of you. Thanks in advance. So the problem is that i recently got problems with my laptop (going slow, not turning off, not hibernating, not eliminating files or too slow) so I took it to a "suitable" person to tell me what's wrong, so he tells me is a hard drive problem(a hard drive which I bought new less than a year and had recently checked with chkdsk and said it was fine) and he sent me some pics supposedly from the hiren boot cd program saying it has bad sectors, but at the same time i can see clearly an option that literally says "create bad sectors".So in conclusion i wanna be sure this is not a scam because he strongly recommend me to buy a new hard drive, and i agree that some of my problems may be because of the hard drive.I think this text describes my problem well, although if more information needed please notify me.Thanks again

I would take the opportunity to replace the HDD with an SSD. You will notice the difference.

BTW, tell your guy about this free tool:

1) A HDD can develop bad sectors in less than a year (or not develop any in 10 years, you never know).
2) CHDKDSK /F only checks the integrity of the NTFS filesystem, it doesn't report physical defects. As for CHKDSK /R I've rarely used it, it's supposed to perform a full scan and detect / reallocate any bad sector, much more thorough obviously, but it's a very long process for a large capacity HDD, and if I remember correctly it doesn't even report the exact location of detected bad sectors. Checking the SMART status is very quick and a better way of checking the condition of storage devices on a regular basis. HD Sentinel (not free) perform a constant background check and issues a warning whenever something is detected.

I'm wondering : what does this “create bad sectors” option actually do ? It can't possibly create physical bad sectors, can it ? Or does it create “logical” bad sectors, the kind which can be fixed by overwriting ?
