Retrieve disk firmware

September 10th, 2021, 12:56

Hi all! Is there a tool available out there which lets your retrieve the disk controller as well as the disk drive firmware version? I'm talking about all kinds of drives - HDD, SDD and something that works across all vendors. I'm working on Windows. If there is an in-built utility, like WMI, which can retrieve the firmware, that would be ideal. Otherwise a 3rd party tool is fine as well. I only need to retrieve the firmware, not update it.

Those seem like repair tools. I'm looking for firmware retrieval tools. Also, something that is free. Open source is even better.

Access to firmware requires the use of vendor specific commands (VSC) which are not publicly documented. Moreover, firmware is modularised, so it's not just a matter of dumping a single binary image.

Go to the HDD Guru Files area and download some examples.
