Diagnostic tool for a new Seagate 5400 rpm

I have various Seatools disks but is there other current diagnostic programs to check a new desktop HDD now simply installed as a data drive at D: ?
Just now I am copying in a large 1 Tb folder to see how that goes.
Also what's the current professional opinion for disk to disk cloning? I have old gear and Win7 and have never moved off of Norton Ghost.
