UFS Explorer and recovering original folder structure

April 26th, 2023, 10:09

Hello forum,

just played around the first time with UFS-Explorer. What I really like is the possibility to
define the encryption key of encrypted Filesystems (e.g. APFS, LUKS) and that
this recovery tool can be used without permanent internet conncetion (compared to ReclaimePro).

May I ask some questions?

- is it posible to list all recoverable files without their parent folder? How?

- is it posible to have UFS-Explorer listed all recoverable files together with their original folder structure (if FS is known)? How?

Thank's a lot!

Harry

Hi

Sorry but I forgot to ask my most important question :)

Why I am unable to recover not only deleted files but as well deleted files TOGETHER with their original folder(entire folder structure/path)? Is there a special option to activate?

- FAT32 and NTFS
- single hdd
- partitions are recognized

Thank you very much!
Harry

What happened to the hard drive to cause you to try UFS?

Nothing happend to the hdd, just trying other recovery-softwares:) But can't believe that I am unable to
have UFS exported the folders too (FAT32, single hdd. partitions are recognized) ....

Are you saying other software found file system structure and UFS didn't?
If so did you ask UFS to search for the specific file systems?
Software like R-Studio selects all file systems by default which makes the scan more complete but slower.
With UFS you have to select them.

Thank you for your help/feedback!

I belived that most tools are not able to recover the folder structure as well. Therefore I did not try.

This is really interesting... I was always wondering why UFS Explorer is so much faster in full scanning than other tools :)

ddrecovery wrote:If so did you ask UFS to search for the specific file systems?

I think.
Action whith the existing filesystem: indexing of the filesystem and continue with the full scan
Scan for the filesystem: Microsoft NTFS, legacy FAT/FAT32

After the scan is done, I expanded to folder tree and selected the deleted file(red colored) and hit "save as".
This does save/export the selected file but without any folders/folder structure.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thank's in advance for your help!

What is the history of the HDD and do you know what file system it was using?
Your answers are very vague.

The HDD is totally ok, just used it for testing if recovering the original folder structure does work.

Tis drive is FAT32 formated. Sorry that I forgot to mention this important fact!

Thank you!

PS
Since UFSExplorer does behave the same with a NTFS formated drive, I have the impression I am the problem and not UFSExplorer:)

So you mount the drive in a PC and you can see the data, but scanning it with UFS gives you nothing?

Maybe add some screenshots so we see what you're seeing, or did I miss those?

- is it posible to list all recoverable files without their parent folder? How?

What exactly do you mean? You want all recoverable files in a flat view mode, or do you want to list files that aren't connected to a parent (folder)?

- is it posible to have UFS-Explorer listed all recoverable files together with their original folder structure (if FS is known)? How?

AFAIK, this is the default unless you disable all file systems. Almost sounds as if you're looking at RAW results only ..

Ok added 2 screenshots:)

Folderstructure an hdd: e:\test7\UFS-Explorer1\UFS-Explorer2\UFS-Explorer3\ (but the 2 files are already deleted and shown in Trash(Papierkorb).

My question:
How to recover the file "UFS-Explorer-test1__recover-this-file-deleted-file-together-with-entire-folder-path"
with the original folder structure?

Thank you!

I did that already bro :)

Okay bro.... Looks like you have a PEBCAK issue then.

I hardly even recover 'deleted files' or a single deleted file but I managed to by:

e:\test7\UFS-Explorer1\UFS-Explorer2\UFS-Explorer3\ (but the 2 files are already deleted and shown in Trash(Papierkorb).

My question:
How to recover the file "UFS-Explorer-test1__recover-this-file-deleted-file-together-with-entire-folder-path"
with the original folder structure?

You right click \test7\ > save with filter tick 'copy deleted files' copies all deleted files + folders.

A tad clumsy I agree.

And next time you share a screenshot, share the entire screenshot please and not just what you think is relevant.

Hmm... right click on \test7\ only this options are shown:

- save all selection
- save selection (advanced)
- create batch copying task
- fins files and folders
- report of files/folders
- check and re-assign file extensions
- show extended attributes
- show properties

What should be the effect of FFS?

Ok let's assume i am in folder /test1/test2/test3/file-to-recover.txt and would like to recover the file "file-to-recover.txt"
and /test1/test2/test3/ in one pass, what do I have to do?

Thank you!

At the beginning of the scan/search "indexing of the filesystem and continue with the full scan" was selected by default.

Why is FFS (Find Files and Folders) needed?

Thank you!
