I found Seatools to be useful to check hard disks and SSD alike

I have a lot of old hard disks stuffed into USB-C cases which mean I can have disks up to past drive Z so windows explorer has some limits. The orico boxes hold 5 disks which really gobbles up drive letters.

I use crystal disk into, seatools and I have some other old tools that still work with windows 11 fine

CHKDSK /R can also be sure the disk/ssd is actually legible too
