Post subject:  Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool 2.36 build 1181 Internal err
I'm getting an error. The software said I should post it here. It's giving me a lot of format errors, too. It may be that the hard drive is bad.

Hello,

It seems the only way to figure out if the program has a bug or it is a bad drive is to try it with another drive :oops:

Actually... can you try to extract smart values? This will probably shed some light...

I have a problem that may be related on Windows 2000.

On startup, I get two error dialogs:
(X) Error accessing device: Unzulässige Funktion [OK]
(X) Cannot change Visible in OnShow or OnHide. [OK]
Nothing is shown in Device details. There is no menu.
If I then click on S.M.A.R.T. and Get SMART Attributes, I get:

SMART is unavailable because the device is not a Native IDE or SATA device.

However, HDDScan 2.6 works and can access the device(s) without any problems.

Could the problem be caused by the secondary IDE controller which does not do anything useful in this Compaq notebook?

A lot of people report problems on Windows 2000. I do not have Win2k installed, probably will do that one day. I think that there are some problems... have to figure out :oops:

Your drive has 2029 reallocated sectors and another 197 waiting to be reallocated.

You can use SeaTools to zero fill your drive, but it won't help. Replace it.

BTW, attribute 187 is Reported Uncorrectable Errors.
