You can remove hdd password with an aplication. The "problem" is that you must pay for it! The company on http://www.hdd-tools.com have that software and they have 2 diferent version. One unlock and preserve the data and the other unlock a clean all data in hdd. There is a diference in pricing!

So, as all you can see there is a way, by sofware, to unlock hdd password.

I'm locking for a free solution, because i have my self a hdd (Samsung HM120JC) locked and with very importante data inside.

If anyone knows a way to do it, please let me know! Smile

PS: You can download the aplication a make a free diagnose. (A-FF Repair Station)

You don't need to buy software to unlock it..... DOS BOX debug.exe and read the Seagate manual...........................

hayo guys,

so - i also got an locked ST94011A.

First i called acer to ask what they take to unlock that drive - was about 60 euros. The point is, the hdd locked himself - i didnt set an password, either user or master, i simple restarted my maschine due installing a programm - after that he showd me up enter hdd password - so i dont accept to pay for that. seconde point acer cant gimme the warranty my data will be saved after they unlock the hdd...seagate forward me every time to acer, cuz the hdd is pointed to acer.

I also found an interessting manual for momentus 54 where this hdd is listed on, and i get the ata-commands out of this document. But my knowledge is very basically at the debugging mode, and i dont know how to send those hex to the hdd - maybe some one gimme support on that point?

whats about flashing the hdd with new firmware, wich i cant find? :D

hope get some reply, colored day - max

1. Dowload the "HDDErase" application from "http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/people/Hughes/SecureErase.shtml"

2. Burn the image to CD which comes with app.

3. Boot your computer with the CD and follow the instructions.

It unlocked my Seagate ATA drive, but I don't if it will help you.

Are you talking about drivelock password?

If so, is it really possible to remove the password using a program?

Btw, I read this story:
http://www.mail-archive.com/isn@attriti ... 05645.html
in which the arrested man sued HP and Compaq because they clamed drivelock was inviolable, while FBI instead succeeded somehow (???) to access his hard disk

In order for a drive to issue the security erase command it would have to be unlocked. This software might issue the known passwords for each manufacturer and that's why yours was fixed but if the drive is locked with another password this should (by the spec) fail. Then again it depends on the security level set and what his software is doing. Overall, the point is this shouldn't just fix a drive with this kind of error.

got the same problem here and the drive is locked high security

was doing a low format

the headstack is locked and you need a master password to remove it

i heard a lot of people are having problems with the drives just locking up for no reasons

mr2000jp,

1st it would be nice to see, where you / a forum member is located. Either to offer
personal assistance or to suggest someone close to you / the requesting member.

2nd the usual unlocking procedures (out of the internet) I have seen (for free) or for
only a few $ - do erase the complete disk.
The ones where the data still remains valid are around $ 60,- (expensive hw tools are
necessary)

I doubt that its worth to pay that to get an old drive back - therefore
BUY A NEW DRIVE - for about $ 60,- you should get a 160GB - Samsung is my advice
