| Post subject: | Newbie Question |
Sorry everyone I am fairly new to the ins and outs of hard drives I apologize for this question as I know it is most likely an easy one. I was just curious as to what programs such as Victoria mean when the final reports state something such as "9:41:33 Warning Block start at 216595712 = 281 ms". I am quite decent with computers and can do a lot with them unfortunate at this time hard drives still puzzle me a bit especially the scans of them. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide it is much appreciated. |

When a utility like Victoria or MHDD scans a drive, it reads each block, and times how long it takes to read each block. To simplify my description, when a block takes longer to read, it is likely to show up as bad soon. So, your warning is telling you a block is going bad, and how many Milliseconds it took to read (281). |

I see many thanks on the explanation I appreciate it greatly. Though if my block is going bad what would be the best course of action to take so that this warning doesn't turn into an error. |

You can tell the drive to mark that block bad. Details are in the MHDD FAQ if I remember right. |
