Managers can't calculate

December 12th, 2008, 4:12

Read this article http://www.wwpi.com/top-stories/6115-it ... ta-storage and compare to what is written in the orignal article this guy extracts data from.
He confouds the number of avogadro with the number of atoms in THE UNIVERSE (10^80) thus predicting that in 15 years time the number of storage bytes will outnumber the number of atoms in the universe

How he will do that is the big question :D

Managers can't calculate and even worse, they dont realize when they are talking nonsens.

yes, that's funny :)
therefore several bytes have to be stored in a single atom...
yeah, we can store one bit by setting the spin of an electron to a specific direction.
Having an atom with ie 128 electrons we can store 128 bits in a single atom, but doesn't these bits get shuffled in a quarter of a moment ? :D

If we implement perpendicular recording, we can store 128X2 or 128X4 per atom

yes, but there is still a problem to cope with:
we will need at least the 1/16 of all the atoms in the universe to store that much bytes. That will cost some $$$$ :)
In fact it would need my precious atoms that I would rather keep to maintain some standard body functions...

You guys think too much lol

Megabyte
Gigabyte
Terabyte

Then we could skip these:

skip > Petabyte
skip > Exabyte
skip > Zettabyte
skip > yottabyte

And jump to:

Atombyte

Imagine making an image at todays data transfer speeds, it'll take time. $ $
