You could do that with the Atari 1050 drives, and with the Apple II's full height drive, though not the half height drive. The half height drive could not support absolute positioning, all it knew was track by track vs. step by step on the stepper motor, which actually broke some copy protected software that was protected by changing track pitch in different areas of the disk.

I remember a program on the C64 that would play a tune from the 1541 floppy drive. Was that you Pepe?

I don't think my progs were spread all over the world

I did them mostly for entertain myself ...

You never know. Despite the 'Internet' being a SneakerNet back then, things seemed to spread as wildly as they do today. I don't remember the details, and it could have been an Atari computer (Friends had both), but I definitely remember being blown away by actual music coming from the drive.
