is it possible to see this update for the atola imager

where we can see a drop down menu of the file tree system of the recovery drive

in this way we can just click on the folders we want my documents or my photos

and do the recovery right away.

this would be better for recovery

i know it got the add on select data information only
this is ok tool
but if the headstack is weak then its risky

thank you

Hello Craig,

Just to clarify; you mean the ability to sort of "scan" for files and then select what files (sectors that correspond to the files) you would like imaged? So that instead of just imaging the whole occupied data area you only image the exact files that are relevant within the occupied data area, but you would still image the sectors for those files in sequential order from forward or reverse so you do not stress the HSA.

The full version of Atola Insight has a file recovery engine that allows you to perform direct file recovery from the drive, but it works just like DR software does, where it will recover the files and cause the heads to navigate around to pull all the sectors for each file in non-contiguous order, thus stressing the HSA. This method is obviously not preferable to be done on the patient drive, but on a copy once an image has already been made.

Hello Craig,

Atola Imager is a hi-end Imager, not a file recovery tool. It does allow you to duplicate or create images of badly damaged drives, and does that specific task very well. It is simply not our intention to "match" features from competing products.

As Russell already pointed out, full Atola Insight has it all, including full support for Ext2/3/4, HFS, NTFS, FAT (more coming). Imager can only image/duplicate occupied sectors on these file systems, but nothing more.

You can always use any inexpensive DR software for file recovery. Most DR software will work with images created by Atola Insight and Atola Imager (both products create "raw" or "dd" images).

Hello Craig,

I would like to define more exactly about HFS support in Atola Insight. Imaging and file recovery from HFS and HFS+ partitions will appear in Atola Insight 2.0 release. The next one.

Vitaliy:

My mistake. You're right, HFS will be available in the next release.

Thanks for correction.

Hi everybody.
Is the full ver of Atola Insight can do the same action as Data Extractor does?
(The addon for PC3000)

I think that such ability to Atola would be great one!
When the next update will be release?

Regards,

Scorpion:
I am sorry, but I have to disagree: I do not think it would be great if we copy Data Extractor (i.e., copy all features). Atola Insight is not a copy of Data extractor or any other tool. Data extractor is a completely different product aimed at a somewhat different market.

It is not too hard to throw all kinds of "features" into the product, but that is not our goal. Atola Insight is for those who wants to save time, costs, and minimize risks. Development of Atola Insight is driven by success rate (our goal is to increase the number of successful recoveries made by users of our product), and not "number of features in product".

If you can tell us what exactly you are trying to achieve (i.e., what you are expecting from a product), then I will be able to provide some feedback.

Version 2.0 will be released in the first half of February.

I agree with Dmitry. The value of any data recovery tool is the number of successful recoveries it can make. Loading down a tool with a lot of gimiky features can make it difficult to use.
