I have a Maxtor HDD from General Electric DVRME 16 CT II.

I need to extract videos recorded with extension .20D or .60D but I do not find them. I used R-Studio, PhotoRec and they do not appear the video files. Somebody knows that software I use to extract these archives of the hard disk. I do not have the DVR.

I am guessing its a proprietary format just for that GE DVR model. I have seen this in other forensic cases I have worked on DVR's The extensions are not the normal video format extensions we all see on other typical marketed DVR systems. Do you have a known good file that you can display in Hex Viewer to get the file header for this format and search for that ?

If you have some those files, please, post this question on the R-TT forum. We'll look at the files, and try to create a custom known file type for this file type.

Hi,

Sometimes the best way is to contact the manufacturer and ask if they can send you an app to read the files.

You can use HEX editor to inspect those files and find header for that file type.

1. I need at least 2 such files with different content to see their common patterns.
2. I need both the ASCII and Hex representations of the files, as there may be some non-printable characters in the signature. The editor built into R-Studio would suit better.
3. Also, the ends of the files are also worth to look at, as there might be possible to create a signature for the file end. This is important to correctly truncate the file.

I can't figure out the offset of the pattern from the picture above. 7B9CAA18 seems not a correct one.
And once more about a pattern for the end of the file. Quite often a lot of service information is stored there. Without it programs cannot play such files correctly. So, it would be good if you look at the end of the files.

Same problem with me. How did you extracted the files from your HDD? After extracting them, you can use WaveReader software to view them, but I can't get them out of the DVR's HDD.

google: the model and see the specs of the unit, have a look @ the Video Format details of ur unit
start from there
