Hi guys, I have the firmware and the relative dcode Utility for the "Maxtor Alias Grizzly". Seagate Support sent me it time ago when I had a serious problem to my 500 GB hard disk Maxtor.

If anybody want it, please contact me in private.

Bye...

Hi there,

I have the firmware you are looking for for use with the Salvation Data products (the firmware could well work with PC3k)

The fully working drive I have is:
Diamond Max 11
Model: 6H500F0

TLA: 6H500F008A21L
SN: H80Z7RGH
Code: HA421DH0
N,G,B,A
LBA: 976773168

I have 2 of these drives from a RAID set. One suffered a mechanical failure, BUT, is slightly different with the code of:
N,G,B,B
I am still looking for a donor match for this drive to complete the work. Does anyone have one?

Best wishes,
John

and the faulty is: N,G,B,A

Best wishes,

The first 2 characters should determine compatibility of head/preamp. But dont grizzly HDDs have adaptive data in preamp or head stack? Maybe I am mistaken, anybody know this?

DiamondMax 11 doesn't have adaptive data features on it as far as I know. I think the first Maxtor range with adaptive data is the Diamond Max 22 (which is simply a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 with a different label). These drives have adaptive data in the ROM chip, meaning that any PCB swap will require a ROM change too.

For head swap a match on the 4 letter code is code is critical. Also the 'Code' is needed as an exact match as this denotes the firmware.

For another Maxtor drive the following protocol is required when finding a part, e.g. :
Maxtor DiamondMax 10
Model number: 6V250F005641A (first five digits are crucial)
Serial: V504BWVG (first three crucial)
Code: VA111630 (exact match needed)
Head code: N,M,B,A (exact match needed)

I agree with hddguy: I think only the 1st two characters need to match for a head swap, e.g. here's a recent example of a successful transplant:

BAD:

6L160P0 (160 GB)
Diamond Max 10 PATA
Config: K,G,G,A
09JAN2006

DONOR:

6L200M0 (200 GB)
Diamond Max 10 SATA
Config: K,G,B,A
24JAN2005

I have a maxtor diamondmax 11
Model: 6H500F0
TLA: 6H500F008A51L
SN: H812R71H
Code: HA431DNO
N, G, C, B
LBA: 976773168

The control board died I think because of windows being able to see the drive as well as bios and linux but none of them can actually access it because as soon as you try to open it everything locks up. Am I right that replacing the PCB/ control board will fix this? Is that all I need to do or could it be another problem? I purchased another drive to swap the boards over and it spins up with the new board but windows does not even see it at all. (I also tried a USB kit too) and then I saw this thread. So if I buy a hard drive which has
Model: 6H500F0
S/N:H815FDBH only the H81 has to match to swap stuff right?
Code: HA431DNO
N, G, C, B

will it work for my hard drive???????? Please help!!!!

I purchased one other
Model: 6H500F0
S/N:H80gyg5h
Code: HA421DDO
N,G,B,A
and this one swapped but would not even be detected at all so I am weary of spending more $ without confirming all the info first

Is it too late to get loader and code(modules) to try to salvage a MaXLine Pro 500 with what is certainly a SA area problem. The specifics are model 7H500F0,tla 7H500F008A5DA,code HA431DD0 N,G,B,B and LBA 976773168.

Quite old post...

... looks like these days I land on old posts :) , sorry for this.

I have got two identical 6H500R0

what says cheadledatarecovery few posts above "DiamondMax 11 doesn't have adaptive data features on it as far as I know.", looks correct.

As a matter of facts, I swapped the boards between the two drives and it works fine, there are not clicking-madly-heads. The issue I have is another :).

- At spinup time they sounds identically (same identical timing in any operation)
- Both are recognized by the BIOS

but later, testing them one-by-one, one hangs the windows boot, while the other doesn't and windows finishes booting fine.

You may bet on it: I need to read the one that is not working fine :)

Looks like this is some flavor of SA' issue, isn't it?
The board it is not... as said above I swapped them and the behavior is still the same
- the "healthy" drive works with both boards.
- the "faulty" drive hangs the windows' boot, with both the boards.
note: windows boot hangs but the hdds led is not still on, it does small light blinks like some kind of little repeated reads.
note: there isn't any kind of head-clicking

I'm wondering what can be done at diagnostic level with MHDD with/for this drive, maybe also attempt to clone it.
Off topic: does MHDD allow to create one drive image? I mean to one file on some spare drive or either to clone the drive to another, thank you if you have got the right parameters for this operation.

Thank you for any suggestion and or tip.

Cor

ill vote bads. Try to image the faulty drive onto an empty drive using software that will allow you imaging backwards.

Hello wizard1985,

I was wondering if you still have the firmware and the relative dcode Utility for the "Maxtor Alias Grizzly".
I really need them.

Thank you.
