If you want / need the data back then send it to Jono in Atlanta let him diagnose it for you his rates are some of the best out there. Sounds like the power supply surged and fried all the devices in your pc. Sounds like you will need new controller board for hard drives and the equipment to transfer the information from the old controller to the new one that part is not DIY

Diagnostics only. Unless its something that turns out to not to be so expensive. I'm to the point where I really want to know what is wrong with the drive.

Flow a blob of solder over R67 and R64, or bridge them with a wire link. Then try to power up the drive.

However, if both resistors are really open circuit, then your drive will have taken a hit on both the +5V and +12V supplies, in which case its prognosis will not be good, and any damage will most probably already have been done.

Be absolutely certain that your power source is good. You won't have a second chance, at least not on the +12V supply.

With a wire or solder blob instead of something safer, 2nd chances are even less (likely zero...). Want to risk ?

It's one thing for a TVS to fail -- it means it has done the job of protecting the PCB from a surge. It's quite another to have resistors downstream fail. That often means there is a short or low-ohmage condition downstream.

I'd start with a fresh PCB, and not add to the high probability that you will let out more magic smoke from the original PCB (and possibly frying the motor, heads, etc) if you bypass the resistors -- which I consider to be very bad advice, BTW.

I will probably bypass the resistor with the drive with no un-needed data. The two drives have the same exact symptoms. However, the drive with the needed data I still want to mail it off and have somebody to diagnose the problem.
