I followed the tutorial here: http://www.computerforum.com/189534-how-clone-hard-drive.html to clone an HDD using clonezilla. I cloned an 80GB IDE hard drive to a 500GB SATA hard drive. The BIOS recognized the new 500GB Barracuda 7200.12, and it even recognizes it in My Computer and I'm able to store data on it. But for some reason it doesn't boot up. I cloned the MBR from the original disk as well. I tried booting up with the new HDD with the cloned data on it, I checked BIOS to make sure it was recognized, and it was, and the SATA adapters were all enabled on the mobo, but all I get is a flashing white dash in the top left corner of a black screen when I try to boot the HDD. Why can't I boot from the HDD?

Which operating system ?

If its Windows 7: Start with the installation dvd and choose repair options

After corrections are done, restart computer without dvd - it should work.

You can also do a repair with the CD. It will solve your problem.

Just a shot in the dark:
Some cloning programs do not clone bit by bit, but apply some "intelligence". I think some of these programs remove the active partition attribute from the target disk. Making it non-bootable.

If this is the cause of your problem, it is easy to mend. Attach both disks to your Win/XP PC. Boot the system from old disk. Then go to Administrative Tools - Storage - Disk Maintenance, and set primary partition of the target disk as active. Lot's of stand alone tools can do this as well.
