hi i was looking for solutions in modifying hard disk models and i finally found PC-3000 who can do it. But the problem lies here we can only modify the models if this model exist in PC-3000 database. Is there a universal solution in editing hard disk models within PC-3000 software or another software which can do so.?

Why would someone want to change the model of the drive? If I own a Toyota Corolla, does changing the label on the back of the car to a Camry make it a Camry?

Well let me explain. I've been currently working in the maintenance of some old systems. There are several machines designed back then which is lock on the size and model the hard disk.
My problem is that to make those machines work again i need to find either the exact same hard disk ( which is now no longer on sale )
or used any hard disk and would simply change the model name and size of the hard disk. I have successfully been able to do it with WD and Seagate hard disk.

What i wanted to do was to used a SSD hard diskand it appear that PC-3000 don't have it in its database. So i was looking like a universal software of procedures or any methods known that i could change the model name of hard disks in general.

BTW the size can be easily changed for any hard disk by edithing the max LBA address in the HPA

For changing the models name of a hard disk i need to access the service area of the hard disk which seems only possible on certain models of hard disks.

Well, changing the hdd model has only one explanation in my mind which is Branding

and u can do that by changing the ID from there

but i wonder WHY really !!!

Well never mind i sucessfully been able to make the system back and running by editing the hard disk model name using a WD Hard disks. i pointed that fact that SSD hard disk was not safe enough and did not mentionned that i cannot edit the model name yet.


For those who never worked with old systems please don't ask why old systems are lock on model names or size of the hard disk. Its just a fact Thanks for the help anyway
