Hi guys, I'm new in this forum and I want your help.

I have the following WD3200JB drive:
MDL: WD3200JB - 00KFA0
DATE: 01 MAR 2007
DCM: DHCACA2CAN

This drive has a burnt PCB (more specific I can see a burnt chip on the board).



So I found another drive (not the same, it's a WD2500JB):
MDL: WD2500JB - 55REA0
DATE: 16 JUN 2006
DCM: D8BHNTJAH

I knew that the PCB may not be the same, but I thought to give it a try. So, I changed the burnt PCB and connected the drive. The system boots but the disk couldn't be recognised by the system. I could hear only some "clicks" and nothing more.

The problem is that when I swapped back to the WD2500JB its PCB, the system couldn't recognised it either.
So, what could have happened to the new PCB?

Any help appreciated!

u have 2 options:

1- Move U12 to donor PCB (SAME PCB)
2- Replace the Burned Diode (I prefer)

To add to einstein's post, the reason why the TVS may have died could be an electrical issue in the Motor IC, so simply removing the TVS diode may cause the motor IC to burn. If you replace the TVS diode and there's an electrical issue with the motor IC, then the TVS will burn again. But if the TVS was tripped by a power fluctuation then you should be AOK.
