No . Drive was not plugged in at the time. It fell and landed where usb plugs in there bended loosening it connections(usb port). Would work still when you would wiggle cord a bit. Took it out of to see if I could fix it. In the process, it broke off completely. Took it to a computer shop and they plugged it directly to their computer and scanned it and got nothing. They did not use usb controller at all explaing why they were unable to access data. When usb first broke off,I put drive in basic Filemate 3.5 enclosure to no avail. Freeware utilities were chkdisk and partition finder or something. neither was able to access it because it was in filemate enclosure. No encryption software was ever used on it.

I guess this is when you should have made a backup...

I dont understand this, how else did they access it?

Maybe the problem originates here. What exactly did they actually do at the computer shop?

Wiggling the cord would not give me enough time for backup. It would connect and autoplay then disconnect. When I put it in the Filemate 3.5 enclosure (from electronics store) it would recognize it as an Unallocated drive. Computer shop plugged it in with sata cable and it read as an unallocated drive. I'm not sure if they tried to reformat the drive as NTFS or FAT32. Would they have been able to reformat it if they didn't even have the usb controller?
