Hi,

Being a complete newbie to this game, I could really use all the help I can get.

Patient is a Samsung Spinpoint 2,5" drive 250 Gb, model number HM252HX, mounted in a rubber enclosure (Imation Apollo UX).
It only has a USB 2.0 connector, soldered straight onto the PCB.

When I connect it to several different machines I can hear some "musical tones", after which the led starts blinking 3 times(blue), pause, 3 blinks, pause, etc
No other sounds like clicking or spinning of the platter.

To me the disk is dead, but I'd like to see if it is possible to bring it back to life: if only as a learning experience.
The data is not important at all. It hung from my WII holding game backups.
It died when I was trying to load some new games onto it from the PC.

I appreciate any comments.

probably the heads are stuck to the platter. If the data is important i would try and find a professional in your area. It something you may be able to fix your self if you open it, that is if it is definitely stuck to the platter and the heads are not damaged. I would not recommend it, since you could make things worse.

some people may say just smack it on a table to see if it frees it up, but chances for permanent damage are high with this method, so also not recommended.
