One of many critical things you must do first is, properly remove the heads from the frozen platters, before trying to move Platters.

Depends on the model. Generally it helps to remove heads, but not necessary.

Two, determine if the shaft is bent. If so if you turn it ON, you will TRASH the platters with the Heads.

Depends on the technique.

Hello hello I assume you mean HDDSerxx.. I have your Head remover.. nice work.. but I think you need to bevel-edge the tips...
otherwise the tips can force or bend good Heads... if your not careful.. or if alignment is OFF or not perfect..

Remember you are dealing with two spindles... Not just the Motor... but the HDA too.

If the Hard Drive took a fall, the Shaft of the Platters.. may be Off and tilting to one side..
so the two Points will not be level... this can cause your tool to scrape the platter or perhaps.. not lift the Heads nicely..
perhaps a (non-magnetic) Metro-Card strips would be better in those cases to remove the heads.. and not your (or anyone's) tool.
Your tool is good for simple Stickage or seized bearings, with no Bent or Warp in the spindle Axis..

AGAIN!!! I don't suspect a problem when dealing with a leveled working drive. like when you already transfered the platters to a new Chassis.. and are about to place new heads in position... STILL, you need to bevel the tips.. for optimal polite lift.

Send me the Platter swapper and I'll give it a thorough evaluation and rating.. If it works I will buy it. and give an honest review.

Nice work guys... Pricey, but nice work..
I only used the HDA swap about 3 times.. still haven't made my money back.. I have my fingers crossed.

The wooden box is a nice touch too. But I keep it out of the clean room.. ;-)

Did You sow our spindle solution?

We are talking about methods here. In combination of tools and methods in right hands and with right tools any problem can be solved.
Nortwind is respected collage and this aprouch is not good on forum. We are all collages not end users who want to do them self.
Our tools can not be used when platters are not leveled, but You can put level up them with spindle removal tool, then use our tool. Etc etc...
Any how we should all read post better, but sometimes they are 2 long and time is not what we all have plenty.
Also there is some post saying about some good tehniqes other then we developed for same problem.
Good guys say they are good so they must be.
Dont make this personal please and look at the link i posted

The sad thing is that there are more frauds then real genuine Techs and Engineers..

A real engineer would have a university degree. Unfortunately in the USA the term is just as easily applied to someone who drives a train. As for data recovery "engineers", they fall somewhere in the middle.

Similarly, a real technician is someone who understands the difference between bits and bytes, and between an open circuit and a short circuit. From what I've seen, most data recovery technicians appear to be board jockeys or point-and-click software users. ISTM that these days there is an excessive reliance on tools rather than intelligence.

FYI: I recently bought Nicolas HDA tool about 2 months ago... We used (and still use) our own methods that work better and safer (at times..) to offload Heads. If the Platters seem level then we use Nicolas tool. So far not to many Seagate's.. with seized spindles..
We had a few but people don't want to spend money for DR, so they just say forget it when they hear the price.. even at a discount.
