I have a Laptop IDE Hard drive which is converted into USB using Casing.... Whenever I copy data to hard drive, it copies quickly but when I copy from USB Hard drive to PC Hard disk... It takes to much time.....
I did changed the casing (converter IDE to USB) but nothing change...

You haven't explained exactly how much time is "to[o] much time" for the copying to take. However assuming that your expectations are realistic (which needs to be confirmed), then you have a choice of several different approaches which you can use, depending on your skill, available equipment, time, budget, etc. I have mentioned some which are applicable to your situation, in this other thread:

For example: Checking SMART data on both disks for any obvious abnormalities; moving one of your disks to another system and repeating your test, to see if the slowness moves with that disk; and using benchmark utilities to check the read (and perhaps write) performance of each disk independently.

If you have Linux skills, then using /dev/null & /dev/zero as appropriate can make it easy to get some quick benchmarking data for the separate disks.

It may help to better understand the cause of your problem if you explain more about the history e.g. has there always been a performance problem copying from this USB disk to internal disk, or is this a new problem? Have you already tried when using a different USB disk, or tried moving this USB disk to another PC and testing again? What other testing have you done, and with what results?

got an error during wipe out
& also when I run SMART, it also gave me an error that "not a native IDE or sata"

Since I did not suggest any "wipe out", I don't know what you are doing. Please ask for advice from the person who suggested that you did a "wipe out".


Some utilities cannot read the SMART data from disks attached via USB, but there are many utilities which support at least some USB-IDE bridges. You can try smartmontools and HDDScan, for example. There are many others. If you are unable to find a utility which is compatible with your USB-IDE bridge for reading the SMART data, then you may need to attach the IDE disk directly, to be able to do that.

now the thing is my usb HDD was infected by autorun.inf virus since than my HDD responds very slow. I copied all the data to my System and formatted it but after that I notice that copying problem. After that I formatted it in windows 98 which we do in early days i.e first by "fdisk" deleting all partitions and make one of 80GB and formatting it using format C: command.
The strange thing I saw was it formatted quickly and showing 10GB only.(Model Number: HTS541280H9AT00)
After that I did the wipe out and SMART things but nothing happen.

[My emphasis above] That series of events is probably telling you something. When you have found and fixed all of your other problems, then you can consider my earlier suggestions, if you still believe that you have a disk-related performance problem.

Be aware that the version of FDISK that ships with Windows 98 is limited to HDD capacities of 64GB. An updated version of FDISK is available from Microsoft.

Since 80GB = 74.5GiB, then your drive's capacity, as seen by FDISK, will be 10.5GiB (= 74.5 - 64).
