I think my PCB short circuited. When I connect it and turn on the PC, it doesn't not turn om. The power to the board switches off. I need help in making this PCB work as my data is in that HDD. I backed up until Jan but due to my laziness didn't do for feb and march

In that it is mentioned to change the diode. How do I do that ?

wow, a 360gb, quite rare in my world.

You have three choices: A) Search this forum for "TVS" and you will have in your hands the answer as to how to find the diode, measure it etc.
B) Swap entire pcb. Then transfer ROM from patient to donor. Assuming there is no other damage to drive, you'd be good to go.
C) Forget A) and B) and trust your drive to a professional. At this time, and assuming there is no other damage except from pcb, it will not be costly.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck.

Check here if one is bad remove it. Try to cut it off do not pull it off. If you can not do this use a solder iron and remove the solder and take it off. Try not to damage your board more.

BTW one removed no more protrection on your PCB on this one. Get off what you need and would think that you would protect the HDD with a surge protector when doing this one. One short and your entire drive might die this time and you might need heads after this one. Take care in this one

Sorry circlied the two in read but might have to download it does not show up too well here in this image. Anyhow can not see the red on this one. There are the two right under your large SATA connector. Directly under this one you have one large and one small and they are the HDD TVS. Check them one is 5v and the other is 12. Find out which one is bad and remove it.

I also emailed the guys at http://www.hdd-parts.com/

They told me they have a similar PCB but only firmware is different. Asked me to send my PCB so they can update it.

What you think guys? Is it the best way forward ?

You can go either way on this one. If you remove the TVS your drive is unprotected. If you get a new pcb and move over adaptive this can work if nothing else is damaged
