Thanks Pepe i really appreciate your wisdom. Very useful. I'm glad that my problems cheer you up!

The problem is no one but northwind gave me ideas. Useful ideas, i mean. Seek for pro help is not an idea. And the wire was idea of mine because of the beeping sound of the HDD. No more mistakes from my part, now only ask for help. Please if you only have mockery for me, tell me and i no waste more our time.

By the way, anyone can tell me wich of the TWO chips with 8-pins is the firmware?

I'll love it if i could put a link to a photo Admins

Best Regards

i still can't post photographs. About the purchased PCB when i place it on the damaged HDD this not spins... does not prove it that this PCB is broken? (With the PCB of my other HDD, the damaged hard disk spins)

I don't claim to know all the anti-spam and other protections on the forum, but I think that photos can be attached to a posting, even by new users - it's the link to your photos, which are probably putting them in the moderation queue (which will then be released when a moderator next checks the queue).

Instead of linking to your photos, have you tried making sure the photo files aren't too big (e.g. around 1MB or less) and attaching them to your posting via the "upload attachment" form, just below the usual "submit" button (if you are replying), or via the "attach a picture or file" button (if you are using the new posting form)?

 Thank you Vulcan i did not see that button

If anyone could indicate me the flash chip with the firmware from this patient PCB i will try to put in the donor PCB. The 8-pins chip of the left it's a ATMEL 1024 250F041A SSHF. The other one (right of the spindle IC) is a STJ009 116J.

Better have someone skilled do this for you. If your soldering skills arent up to it, you can end up with quite a mess.

May I ask where did you get this guide to remove diodes, then wire them etc?

I can show you a photo of just such a case, but it was done by someone pretending to be a professional.

The following PCB supplier offers a free firmware transfer service:

Sorry to say, but even I think you might be better off giving this job to someone else, assuming it's not too late. :(

BTW, the reason you removed the diode was because it was shorting the power supply. By replacing the diode with a piece of wire, you replaced a short circuit with another short circuit. Not a very clever thing to do ...

That said, if your power supply was well behaved, then it should have shut down gracefully. Can you tell us what brand it was?

Well I s'pose donordrives offers this service when you buy the pcb from them. They do not have this pcb in stock (I checked). Therefore, what's next?

Sorry I will not stand up for what other professionals do. Putting everyone under the same bridge is ....

A millions thanks northwind :D Thank you very much.

fzabkar this is the power supply:

The problem was in the wires (red marked), was crossed and have 12v where 5v and 5v where 12v. Before wired the diode i have repaired the power supply (i was using it with other HDD and no problems at all). Then i plugged the broken HDD with the wired TVS diode and the power supply blows up:

This is all the stuff (with the wired diode removed):

And finally this is the letter i wrote to the website where i purchased the PCB:
N.º de recibo: 4866-6845-1257-4043
Id. de factura:1606

Hello:

The PCB you send me is broken. I have two HDD HD2040UI both with BF41-00314A, one is the broken and the other is ok. With the PCB of the ok HDD, my broken HDD spins, with your PCB the broken HDD does not spin. To be sure also i have tried your PCB on my ok HDD and DOES NOT SPIN neither.

The PCB of yours is visible used and it looks like you sold it to me with the VCM Controller broken. I want a WORKING PCB BF41-00314A fabricated on 2011/09 in any other case i want my money back.

I'll be wating for your news.

P.D: I have attached a photo.

This is the response to my letter:
--------------------------------------------
Hello +++

Thanks for your email, we are sure that pcb we sent you its a good working unit because all our pcb are tested before we ship them out.

We test them by reading the ROM and firmware and writing it back.

To make your hard drive working again you need to transfer rom and rom modules from original pcb to the pcb we sent you, otherwise the hard drive will not ID or sometimes spin up because of the adaptive data.

We can send you another pcb but it`s a waste of time and money because it will be same result.

I recommend you to send the drive here with original pcb and we perform data recovery for you at reasonable price.

If you want us to send another pcb to you send the one we sent you back please.

For any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope to hear from you.
---------------------------------------

Is this possible? And although with the PCB of my good HDD spin up and with the PCB buyed not spin up and this buyed PCB is working?

Thank you in advance

madloc, you seem insistent on pursuing this job yourself.

If you can operate a multimeter, measure the three voltages in the photo clip:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HD103SJ_regs.jpg

You can disconnect the PCB from the drive when doing this. Measure all three boards. Use SATA ground as the common terminal.

So what happens to this drive (assuming we have a safe & new power supply) if there are no TVS's and SHORTS on the PCB, won't the mofo power right up and all be well? What am I missing here..?

All I want to do is to narrow down the problem. If these voltages are absent from the purchased PCB, then it will be proof that it is dead. If the Vio supply is absent or shorted, then that will cast doubts on the survival of the flash memory. In any case, measuring the supply voltages is one of the first and easiest things to do when troubleshooting a microprocessor based board. I suggested removing it from the drive to prevent any damage to the HDA if the OP were to slip with the probes.

Sorry, i didn't see your response before. Thank you very much fzabkar. I'm going to do it right now. I'll try to measure with 20v dc

The PCB that you bought is faulty.

Measure the voltage at each of the two TVS diodes (the striped end).
