Hello guys,

I have here a Fujitsu SAS MBA3147RC that doesn't spin up. So I think of a PCB problem.

I see a diode near power connector, I tested it with multimeter and it is open in both ways. So if it's a TVS diode,
maybe the cause of malfunctioning.

Can you tell me if the one in the pic is a TVS diode?

thanks,
Simone

So it's not a TVS diode?

There is a little led that turns on on the PCB when the hdd is powered, but the drive doesn't spin. What may be the problem?

Beside THAT component the problem is elsewhere and if it is the whole PCB or firmware or both it's a BIG mess. NOTE : maybe the drive is configured to sense data connection and it won't spinup if it is disconnected ?

Thanks for your reply. Data cable is connected, I'm using a FastTrak SAS controller and I'm sure it supports this HDD. The green led turns on, but the platters don't spin up and the controller BIOS doesn't see the drive. So you say it may be PCB or FW problem.... Is there anything else I can check?

1st level diag then is done. Out of curiosity how did the problem start and what is the environment i.e. caddy on a ProLiant server or similar ?

Yes, the hdd was inside a server, the problem showed up after the drive has been removed and re-inserted while the server was turned off. Then the disk hasn't worked anymore. This info can help?
