Hi guys,

I have following WD hard drive:

WD5000AAKS-60Z1A0
Date: 19 Apr 2010
DCM: HANNNTJCAN
DCX: 4004Z4211

PCB:
2060-771640-002
REV P2
2061-771640-L02 01P XC BL01 0ADD L 0007410 0417

which is dead. I read a lot about this and other web sites suggest getting a donor PCB with same number: 2060-771640-002 REV P2 as it should be compatible.

Just to confirm with you, if I get one, is it possible just to swap PCBs for my hard drive to work again? If not, why?

Thank you in advance for your help!

This has been discussed umpteen times on this forum.

Basically no, it won't work 99% for sure.

You either need to transfer the "adaptive" data from the bad board or recreate it.

The former is only possible if there is a "ROM" chip at position U12 on the PCB, and needs decent soldering skills. The latter is where there is no chip and if absolutely not DIY'able.

By "dead" I presume you mean totally silent, not a peep?

We can help in UK for a reasonable charge if required.
