Hi guys, I'm not exactly sure where to post this so I do apologise if it's in and on the wrong forum. I wanted to ask a question about a short that recently occurred on my PC.

I recently put together a new PC and connected everything up correctly. However, the front USB ports of my PC chassis were connected into the wrong port on the motherboard, so when I plugged my microphone into the USB ports on the chassis it was shorted and now always comes up with the 'USB Device Not Recognised' message when plugged in, though it does look like as if it's about to work and the LED light flashes.

I was wondering, have you ever come across HDDs which have been shorted? If not, and let's say you did come across a shorted HDD, can the damage occur anywhere on the circuitry and impossible to locate? I'm wondering because I pulled out the circuit board from my microphone and I've attached pictures. Just thought if any of you knew where the short is likely to occur and how I may be able to fix it.

I greatly appreciate your help, thanks.

You mean Hard Disk Drive by HDD . .?
But there is no mention about details of the drive
(better explanation needed).
give details of the drive as well as why you feel the drive is shorted.

Try sci.electronics.repair.

That's where technicians and engineers hang out, especially the older, more experienced ones. You're more likely to get chip level help there. Quite a few audio techs there, too.
