In terms of the breakout of failure, head / firmware problems are much more common than PCB issues by ratio of at least 10/1. In our experience, anyway.

But since your drive now spins with another board, that confirms a bad PCB. If you are lucky, that'll be all that failed.

yes it confirm that the drive does spin up then shuts down as its not talking to the micro
there is no clicking noise
but nothing else. lba is zero

very weird issue i got.
last test is that the drive head has gone.

Hi CRAIG have the EXACT same pcb

If the drive does not spin and has NO SOUND ABSOLUTELY, then its 100% GUARANTEED PCB FAILURE!!!

You need to buy same model no. Pcb from hdd-zone.com

I had same drive as you 100% and it failed after a week just like you.

Dont spend money on data recovery because i can guarantee you its the PCB

This drive + PCB are extremely unreliable.

So only need to buy new pcb and transfer both u12 and u14. It worked for me

I actually have a 2060-771761-001 REV A PCB, if you want to buy

hello thanks for the information i can confirm that i tested it with another board
which should we are sure is compatible

our board was 2060-771761-001 compatible was board -> 2060-771692-005 (there is no space for the u14) as this is a bridge for the usb connector

but the test show that it spins up then shuts down as there no information going to the micro
if you put the old board back on no spin up.

i just got another board on order which contains the usb connector only

once i get this if this fails then for sure the head has just failed
possible might look into replacing the headstack next

please tell us if your drive comes back alive
as you might have the same issues as us

Sometimes bad heads (usually badly crashed) will prevent a WD drive from trying to spin at all with the correct PCB. If you put on another PCB with different firmware, the drive may spin up. So the only way to rule out the circuit board is to be sure that the patient firmware is on the donor PCB when you try it.

lba zero not a firmware issue
head has failed
