A question for everybody.
Does exist a tool for putting the heads on the platters ? If you have a drive with a single platter and two heads, you can put the heads on place easily, but if you have a drive with more than one platter is really complicate, becouse you have to separate all the heads at the same time.

Does such a tool exist?

Yep people make them.

some fancy some very basic.

One fella took thin plastic (static ? - probably not a problem)
to make a "comb".

basically you just have to keep the heads apart and the "range of movement" is quite close, so you have to make the comb teeth accurately.

Some imagination and some steady hands will do it.

Getting the replacment head assembly back and spot-on - now here is the problem - needs luck, experience and skill.

Try it with some of your own drives.

Not something you can buy off the shelf.

If you have not done so open one of the 2001/02 IBM notebook drives (and others) and you will see a ramp 'n park for the heads - might give you some ideas for your comb.

Hello guru,

good idea - give some names of the very best professionals in Moscow - I will deliver some drives to them, by hand.
