I can't get it ready. I've designed a silly system to ensure easy, long term and reliable short circuits on the read channel pair, but this is driving me mad. LED: BD seems to mean "I don't understand the command" or "I can't do that right now". Almost anything from i4,1,22 to /2 B223a,223a to check the buffer returns LED BD.

I can provide a copy of the ROM if someone can hack the headmap tables to tell the drive to use just one head (PC3k can't understand well this ROM).

I'm still willing to pay for a solution.

Cheers

Hello
Search post of Waqas_ali766 in forum you will find good results.
i already posted the solution in the forum about this problem.
this problem is only solved by short read channel on the pcb after complete calibration of hard disk.
then some time hard disk immediately shows ready status and gives access to terminal. some times it shows alot of errors for about 2 minutes then gives you access to terminal.
after shorting the pins if the drive shows this message then its ok
Quote:
Total AC8, Head AA0, Tail 28 Retry 1 Status 0

Total AC8, Head AA0, Tail 28 Retry 2 Status 0[00000000000879A9]v00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008qv00000008q...

you need to reset power , then hdd auto recalculate all things and gives you ready status.
some time after short pins hdd gives you terminal access after showing (NO HOST FIS ERROR), if this error appear then use
m0,2,2,,,,,22
clear smart
level T
F00A2,00,22
F01E4,00,22
F057C,043C,22

some time after short pins hdd shows alot of following errors
Quote:
Starting LBA of RW Request=00000000000879AD Length=00000164
ProcessRWError -Read- at LBA 00000000000879AD Sense Code=43110081

these error gone by using Disable relocations commands.

Regards
Waqas Ali

Thanks for the pointer!

I searched the posts, and found this:
Quote:
Tip: How to identify the Read Channel test points:
http://malthus.zapto.org/viewtopic.php? ... annel#p149

Unfortunately the web-site was offline, however I found a Google cache of it.
The cache didn't contain the images, but from the text I worked out how to locate the read channel from the HDA.

Shorting it during HD boot enabled it to get past the bad firmware on the disk, and fix some things, as you said.

The drive now is identified by the PC and data is accessible.
Wonderful result, thanks very much!

Dear jignesh,

This case was solved here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27839

A headswap was needed in order to achieve user data access. And patience.

Yes, the drive itself will tell you the commands it accepts, if that is what you are asking.

Go to level C and Type Q:

Code:
F3 T>/c

F3 C>Q

outputs all commands, apart from secret squirrel ones I guess..:
Code:
Online CR: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Abort
Online ESC: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Abort Looping Command or Batch File
Online ' ': Rev 0001.0000, Flash,   Pause Output
Online '.': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Display Active Status
Online '?': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Display Diagnostic Buffer Information
Online '`': Rev 0012.0001, Flash,   Display Read/Write Statistics
Online '$': Rev 0012.0002, Flash,   Display Read/Write Statistics By Zone
Online '{': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Toggle EIB-Specific R/W Tracing
Online ^D: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Toggle R/W Tracing
Online ^N: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Toggle R/W Tracing
Online ^W: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Enable and Init RW Statistics
Online ^O: Rev 0003.0000, Flash,   Advance Servo Tracing State
Online ':': Rev 0001.0000, Flash,   PrepSecondaryOnlineCmd
Online '!': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Display Current Read Channel Settings
Online '<': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Decrement Read/Write Scope Sync
Online '>': Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Increment Read/Write Scope Sync
Online '~': Rev 0014.0000, Flash,   Display Native Interface Command State
Online ^A: Rev 0013.0000, Flash,   Display Firmware Revision
Online ^B: Rev 0012.0000, Flash,   Get Thermistor Temperature
Online ^C: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Firmware Reset
Online ^E: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Display Native Interface Configuration
Online ^F: Rev 0011.0001, Flash,   Display Native Interface Read Cache Information
Online ^I: Rev 0011.0000, Flash,   Display Controller Registers.
etc...
etc....

Pay attention to what level the commands work in, and yes some are powerful and easy-to-brick-your-device commands

See my tutorial to see if you can read any sectors directly from the terminal
