Hello,

One of my HDD from my Synology NAS just died during the night.
I took it off and tried it on an external case and I detected the following:

- It is starting "normally" (it is spinning and so on)
- Then after a few seconds it is beeping (not clicking!)

I actually found a video on youtube which correspond exactly to my problem:

Any idea what could be the issue ? Is it the PCB or the heads ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Robin!

This means bad heads, maybe bad FW, or media damage.

you need recover data?

if not waste it, other wide we need more info:
Synology NAS station info
number of Drives.
RAID configuration level.

..

Thanks for the info.

Synology DS212. 2x same HDD. Other HDD still working fine. The harddrive (SMART) seemed to be fine until the failure.

Well, there was no RAID as it wasn't sensible information stored in there.
Important information had another backup so no worries.

Anyway, if I could get some data back it would be nice even if it's not critical.
I already ordered a new one as it is no more under warranty.

So I would like to give a try recovering data, but if it fails that's ok.
