Not possible I believe if the password is lost :-(

Some claim it is possible, but I'm sceptical.

First of all, as a legit owner, you could call for support.
Second, the USB connection is rather limited, so it's preferably to plug it in as SATA and check several dedicated utils.
Third, the default (factory) passwords is something like "WDCWDCWDCWDC..." (31 chars?), but if the security is locked then it may have been re-scrambled.
Fourth, even when the password is locked and lost some gurus claim to UNlock it--at the cost of the lost data (security erase, I guess) which is not the case (yet).

I believe Sempre is asking for support for an unknown WD Smartware password that encrypts the data. Not the easily crackable hard drive password.
