I have WD30EZRX-00MMMB0 (originally external); the drive spins, doesnt click, does make a little strange sound RIGHT after the typical getting ready to get recognized sound and then just hangs in BUSY. I got a donor, swapped heads (donor works with failed drives heads 100%), swapped PCB (again donor works 100% with failed drives PCB after ROM swap), heck the donor even has same firmware as the failed drive (swapped failed drives PCB onto the donor no problem).

I know these drives are pretty new; I'm assuming its something to do with the SA. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Spildit.
I'm getting the same problem in PC3K.
I can read tracks and modules but i can't get access to data and the drive just hangs in BSY. Do you mind sending me a PM?

when something like this WD hangs in BSY, isolate heads and wait for Kernel to kick in, then put drive to sleep and block access to SA by regions shift.
repower, upload loader, search modules in SA, use dir in the utility, fix slow response, repower, shift regions back, enjoy.

Hey grig85,

Can you please elaborate on your solution for solving the "BSY" problem.

Thanks,

Thanks guys,

I've applied the slow fix but now the drive is reporting a smaller size in bios, 800GB of a 3TB drive. Has someone else had this issue after applying the slow fix?

Regards,
Profix

Hi Spildit,

The box for "Disable Host Protected Area" is unticked. Is this what you mean by Check if HPA is set?

How do I go about testing Module 02 for corruption?

Doing a heads test reveals that heads 2 through 7 have read errors. How reliable is this test?

In a SA structure test, there are a lot of modules that fail a Read. I've attached a result log for this.

The capacity is detected correctly in PC-3000 just not in the bios.

Nope, not a bios limitation. The data is the important part. We didn't buy data extractor with our PC-3000. Is there any other cloning software that we can use?

Victoria 4.46b gives me [ATA protocol] DRQ!!! Press RESET or restart HDD!
Victoria 4.43 gives me Waiting of readiness... Drive not ready!
Tried resting, restarting and even a known good hard drive, Same result. Tried the two ace ports that showed up.

I think we might need to buy Data Extractor.

I've just successfully replaced the heads (HARCHV2AAB) with a donor (HARCHV2ABB). Looks like the heads test is still failed of heads 2 through 7. Don't think its faulty heads.

Needless to say i didn't even notice that the post was from you and answer to it as if it was a post from the user with the WD drive problem.
Sorry if it looked like a bit rude.
Sorry to both of you, guys...

No worries. :) It looks like the heads were OK. Do you think it's back to a module 02 corruption?
