Hi guys,

recently my notebook didn't boot up properly and after hard reset rejected to find the WD1600BEVT-22ZCTO.
As far as there's no IDE/AHCI option in the notebook BIOS, I had to connect the HDD to my PC and boot into DOS.
There were some issues in Victoria with port checking, yet after a dozen of re/un/plugging it did see the HDD once, but after trying to check SMART it disappeared for long...

So, it (A) does spin-up, (B) not seen via BIOS, (C) keeps BUSY for some 45 seconds and (D) clicks as if spin-down or power off.

For what it's worth, although the available info is rather vague--from bad WD batch FEB'2008 and bad contacts to electronic/mechanic issues--I would like to hear from you.

TY.

It seems your drive has problems with heads (in normal configuration it has two heads). Heads are not absolutely dead, but usual customer can not fix this problem personally. Don't power-on it anymore, because it less chances to get the data. Better to bring it to specialist, it should be less price still problem not so serious.

Ok, I see.

What a terrible WesterDigital week for me!
First "green" WD10EARS ran slowly and faulty with some 200 relocated and over 400 pending, then another notebook WD called "mayday", and now my external USB WD3200MEB growing rather hot... Yayks!
Should I consider selling neodymium then? Whatever.

Thanks, guys.
