wd20nmvw - usb3 - encrypted - lost password

onboard encryption via JMS538S

customer used smartware password to lock drive.

There is a hint - so its not corruption

Is there a solution for this ?

I know how to decrypt these with the bridge boards - it wants a password.

thanks

if there was a way to decrypt it, then it would kinda defeat the purpose of hardware encryption, don't you think?

Well,
So There Are Two Passwords .One is Easily Solved By a Pro Tool Or Non Pro Methods .The Other One Can Be Cracked Once The HDD Has Content In Memory .Our Friend Einstein Can Do That IMHO

Not really.
If there is a password set and it is lost, only way to recover by conventional methods is meditation.

can you state the full model ? i have seen couple of WD new drives which are not encrypted by USB bridge so may be your only problem is smartware.

Did you see article about encryption on those hdd? It's look like it's possible to hack hdd and get data even if password are lost. I would love to get real case to try technic from this article.
