Hi guys,

I need help my Original HDD wouldn't turn on and my friend said that I needed to take it to a data recovery Center but I can't afford it. Another friend told me to buy a PCB replacement/Donor drive. Well I finally found it. I switched the PCB into the donor it turned on and started working but it wouldn't read it. Would I require a BIOS or Rom swap. If so which ones are they and how can I tell?
The pcb's are both say G003250A also do the pcb's match posted pics. Please help! Thanks!

Needs ROM swap on this model.

PCB's are 100% unique, even drives s/n is in the ROM.

IC602 is the chip on these I believe

@Nandez94, be very careful when swapping the chip, if you're not skilled enough to handle it, give to so someone who is.
overheating the chip can cause damage to the content of the chip.
that chip contains unique data for this drive and if you lose or damage the data inside, access to user data on the drive will be impossible.

There appear to be two fuses on this PCB. If you can upload a good photograph of the component side of the board, and if you have a multimeter, I can help you test them.

Your PCB is different from another MQ01UBD100 PCB in the area of the fuse. The other PCB has two fuses whereas yours appears to have only one.

Can you measure the resistance of the component in the photo clip? Use the 200 ohms range of your meter.

Can you also measure the voltage on either side of it? Use a screw hole as your ground reference.

I'm taking it to get the chip swapped tomorrow and I can ask the guy to do it. Is it possible to also swap the silver USB part?

Why would you want to swap the USB connector? Is the donor's connector damaged?

If you're proceeding with the firmware transfer, then there is no point in doing anything else. It would be interesting to know if the fuse is open, though.

Okay so I got the chip swapped and the hard drive powers on but the computer won't read the drive.

It sounds like your friend is a component level technician. Can you ask him to replace the fuse (a 2A picofuse or ordinary glass fuse would suffice), and then measure the following voltages (at each of the coils):

There is no need to reinstall IC602 for these tests.

Compare the voltages against the donor PCB. If they are OK, then you might try returning IC602 to the patient.

If you have the facility to read the chip, I would do so for backup purposes.

W25X20BL, Winbond, 2M-bit, SPI flash memory, 2.3V - 3.6V:

He said he thats way out of this hands. The drive turns on but the computer doesn't recognize it. It does to the extent it knows its a Toshiba but when we go to disk management it isn't shown. It shows up on the device manager as usb 3.0

How do the two PCBs show up in UVCView or USBDeview?

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... ew.x64.exe
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/USB_ID ... ew.x86.exe

Do you see the serial number of the donor or the patient?

You don't need to return IC602 to the patient for this test. Just flow a blob of solder over the patient PCB fuse. Don't try the PCB on the drive, though. If the board burns up, at least you will have saved the important IC.
