Hi friends.

I have an Seagate ST500LM021 LAPTOP THIN HDD FW: 0002LIM1. It was extracted from an unknown Lenovo laptop model which not longer exists. HDD contains 3 partitions: a first partition which label i don´t remember now, the second partition is Windows 7 and the third partition is Lenovo recovery.

The problem is that looks like if hdd is in a read only state because drive always return to its initial state. I removed partitions, format it, Zero filled, change HPA and when restart pc the 3 partitions and data remains intact. Hdat and MHDD says that drive is not password protected. I have read that may be Lenovo encript it.

Any idea or solution?
thanks in advanced,
Oleg.

Hi, what tool did you use to do zero fill? Have you tried to change partitions or to do a zero fill under linux? Can you explore and upload first sector here?

best

I tried zero fill with Victoria, Hdd Scan, Seatools for Dos, Hdat2.5, Mhdd 4.6, etc. The curiosity is that there is not errors messages, apparently all done fine, but when power off/on the drive remains intact. In Windows apparently i can remove partitions and create new one, but format can not be completed, all this until disk it is restarted that appears all partition again.

I can access via terminal commands, but nothing more to do due to ¨Diagnostic port locked¨ issue.

I mentioned the encription issue because the client tell me that disk was working perfectly when was inside notebook, but i agree with spildit that is rare.

By last disk was tested in many pc and same issue.

Well, ok, but only for my knowledge, is this a fw issue? Exist a fw update for this hdd without the need of pro-tools?
