I have a st31000340as drive and yesterday it stopped working.
the drive fails to show in bios up in bios but it is detected in device manager in windows and if I hot swap it in windows chimes with detection of the disk.

The hdd spins up and makes the correct noises from the actuator like it is working it is not clicking and then spinning down or any thing like that.

I was expecting to log in to the ttl interface and see a bsy error like the typical 7200.11 drive and clear the smart and it would be going again but this is not the case with this drive.

I read up on the Seagate docs and dumped some logs via the ttl interface to let me know what is the issue noting that head 2 has a lot more defects than the others and head 5 resistance is a bit left of field compared to the others.

I'm guessing the V10 command that I snipped the bottom off the log would indicate lots of defects and this drive needs pro repairs?

I'm in no way a pro but from my perspective of the logs the drive has lots of defects and is requires pro repairs

I have managed to dump everything off the drive so I'm quite happy :-)

would this fault mean there is bad sectors in the translation tables or just in some way got corrupted? if so I guess that means get a new drive or is this something that is unfortunate?
