ST31000528AS FW: CC38 Problem -New

January 31st, 2017, 9:04

Today i got one hdd without any label with non-detected condition

i tried to read system files through terminal, from that i got the information about HDD

Model: ST31000528AS with CC38 Firmware

i can read many both copies of sysfiles from hdd through hyperterminal except

the important sysfiles 28,35 30A, and 134,135,136,137,138,139,140,143,301,306 when tried i got
"DiagError 000000E"

so i tried write copies of these from other same model hdd with same firmware CC38.

the writing these files goes without error in both copies. But when hdd repowered i m getting same error for all those sysfiles mentioned above.

i tried to write one sysfiles, after successful writing tried to read it then getting the same error

Sysfiles_readed.rar
(1.33 MiB) Downloaded 302 times
Sysfiles_readed.rar[/attachment] these are from that hdd

What is the problem ? what i have to do?

Hello,

surface is damaged at the SA and probably other areas as well. From this situation it is quite a bit complicated to move forward. I can help, if i get the drive itself, but wouldn't go into details ...

i tried PCB with ROM trans, now i got the sames error to read those mentioned files.

but now i tried to write 28 & 35, success as previous but now i can read them back again immediately or re-powered without problems.

now i need which of these sysfiles 134,135,136,137,138,139,140,143,301,306 interchangeable

my thoughts pls correct me if it is wrong

134 (mod 0A) contains drive serial number so it should be drive dependent
135 (mod 35) no drive detail
but don't have idea about others

Note: i can use clear smart with success and i4,1,22 with success even can issues translator commands like m0,6,2 & m0,6,3 with success and can issue congen.

waiting for further ideas

yes

solved many cases before (28, 35, 346) even from different firmware versions but same model

well, 28 is translator, rewriting it with a foreign one will not work obviously...
35 is NRG, if u rewrote it, u will have problems if it had entries before, even if u ever manage to regen translator somehow...
Do you have a backup of these files even if they contain bads?

I have same thought like u before my first attempt to write 28 & 35(Which has no entries) from other drive then when repowered i got No host filesystem error then i used m0,6,3,,,,,22 and clear smart then apply congen.

Then hdd works well without any data corrupt, that may be my luck but i did this in most 500DM002 series and 418AS without problem

but not tried other system files

Can u do one help by providing drive dependent sysfile list? May PM

OK come to this drive

1. Someone handled this drive before me
2. there are no copies left in this drive so i have no chance to read those files when try i got only 000000E error
3. I don't know the reason why both copies none

thanks for ur replies pepe

of course, when m command works, 28 can be rebuilt, however, in that case i would still read the sysfile sector by sector before trying to overwrite it with anything. Just in case...
In this situation m fails i suppose, does it?

try zero-filling after m.
or use m with certifying enabled.

ps: i think you have just hijacked this thread... :)

i think you write wrong 28 and 35 sysfile.

i recommend that you must get copy 1 of these files via r28a,3,1 and r35,3,1.
then write with w28 and w35.
