Thank you for reading my post.

As a newbie and possibly the oldest member here,i need help and advice.

having plugged my laptop power lead accidently into my Seagate external hdd i believe i have now have a dead HDD.

I managed to remove the drive from its casing and set it in place in my tower pc as a normal hdd.
i have done this before with a previous external drive with success.

as you probably figured, this time it did not work.

i am wondering if to try replacing the PCB? On the back of the drive itself, but unsure if this is the way to go.
If it is i am confused of the exact component to get,or indeed where from.

here is all the info i have

Seagate ST2000DM001
100724095
GTC18V-0?? C-1432=03-22 (Two digits i cannot read)

i am based in the UK England,so if its the last straw i will get it done by whoever you can recommend, but would very much like to try to fix it myself as a challenge.
thank you ...Fredrick

Im afraid its a bit more complicated than simply replacing the pcb... how technical are you?

I'm 77 years of age. How old are you?

In any case, search for @fzabkar's posts about TVS diode and associated zero-ohm resistors.

Larry

Do you have multimeter to check TVS diodes and zero ohm resistor continuity?
Can you show us a pic (high resolution) of you pcb?

Screwdriver is Torx T8 or T6 depending on screw size. You should be able to get at toolstation or somewhere like that.

How does the pc show it when connected via normal SATA ? Detects as something, or no detection at all ?

When fitted into my tower it shows nothing,no signs of life

I have another ex hdd that I did the same wrong power connection to (classic !!!)
but that did work in my tower once removed from its housing, but it was not a Seagate,i think that one was WD

Just an update.......

I sent the drive away to be repaired in the end.

Returned to me repaired,so I'm very happy.(no data lost)

Not sure if I am allowed to name companies,so please delete if needed.......

I used pcimage, up north.
Very helpful guys, good communication, and no hidden nasty surprises....recommended.
